ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired by Australia’s indigenous people Australia's indigenous people have lived for at least 65,000 years in matriarchies, sharing stories, knowledge and songlines. Aboriginal mothers and grandmothers are the backbones of their communities and are frequently the heads of community organisations. They lead the political, social and cultural aspects of community work, including frontline protection/activism. Similar to what is now happening with the Navajos & Hopis of the US, Australian, Tasmanian and Torres Islander matriarchies had been forgotten amidst a wider patriarchal society. However, this is now being revived by scholars & researchers, and by women activists.

I am a London based artist working primarily with acrylics. My paintings mostly start off as ideas and concepts, which I compose in my head. Once I’m happy with the subjects, the colours and the placement, I then translate this to my chosen medium. I use a lot of colour symbolism in my paintings and even match backgrounds with the subjects I paint.
