Maverick the Great is part of an ongoing series I call "Riding Giants", in which I explore the theme of conquering fears. Maverick the Great was inspired by Mavericks, the infamous big wave surf competition in Half Moon Bay, California. This child is not only conquering his fear of being crushed by a monster wave, but also his fear of what monsters might be lurking underneath the surface as well.
