ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Miche from Parisian boulangerie Poilâne. Miche is the signature bread from Poilâne and displays the beautiful craftsmanship of the maison with the cuts of it’s iconic “P”. Boulangerie Poilâne was founded in 1932 by Pierre Poilâne, and still exists at the same address, 8 Rue du Cherche-Midi, in the 6th arrondissement. Today it is owned and operated by Pierre’s granddaughter, Apollonia. The original was created in oil pastel on acid free 250g A5 paper.

Benjamin is a California native who has been living in Paris, France since 2018. This experience launched his most recent collection documenting bread from different boulangeries around the city, which debuted in 2021. In addition to creating fine art for over 30 years, Benjamin has worked in film and photography, as well as in fashion as a self-taught shoemaker. His current collection is inspired by our connection to history, culture, craftsmanship, and to each other through an everyday object - bread. This has also inspired further steps to connect with international social justice organizations which focus on food waste and access to quality food.
