About this painting, the title “Miles to Go.” This piece evolved quickly. I started off by just wanting to paint Miles Morales, the Afro Latino Spider-Man. Then I researched why the characters name is Miles. It is because of Miles Davis, which is mad dope! Miles is one the most influential jazz musicians. So I added a outline sketch of Miles Davis inside the larger black and white mask of him playing his trumpet. Then, I added an article about Miles death. I also added supreme courts reveal about possibly overturning Roe v Wade. Below, I painted Kendrick Lamar because he was doing a self embrace, that Miles often did with his horn and he also has a new album out that is fire! Which lead to me painting fire! Ha! I started thinking about all the things going on in todays world, and how it is constantly on my mind. So I halo’ d the fire around the head. Which made me create a throwback of the background painting of Miles album cover Bitches brew. I included with a basketball player remixed from a Frank Morrison painting who’s work I love. I also wanted to acknowledge the people died brutally killed my a monster at #topsgrocerystore. Each Spiderman head represents a person killed by this villain. I also added a throwback comic of the first Black superhero.
