Acrylic painting on Alupanel Born January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky, and died June 3, 2016 in Scottsdale, Arizona, he is an American heavyweight boxer, considered one of the greatest boxers of all time. First period 1960 light heavyweight medal at the Rome Summer Olympics. Second period 1964 He became world champion in heavyweight boxing. Born under the name of Cassius Clay, at the age of 22 he converted to Islam, changed his name and called himself Cassius X. The letter X referring to the rejection of his slave name in the absence of his real name of African origin. 1965 Receives the name "Mohamed Ali" from Elijah Muhammad, leader of the Nation of Islam movement. 1966 Mohamed Ali refuses his conscription. One of his fights is canceled due to his refusal to serve the American army and the WBA will take away his title. 1967 He regains the WBA title by dominating Ernie Terrell, but is indicted three months later for his refusal to wage war in Vietnam. Sentenced to 5 years in prison (he will avoid prison), stripped of his titles and prohibited from boxing for 3 and a half years. Third period 1971 Ali’s first defeat against Joe Frazier whom he underestimated, but he still hadn’t regained a high level of training and condition. After recovering from his defeat, Ali will complete 14 fights and 39 exhibition fights between June 25, 1971 and October 30, 1974. The goal was to return to the highest level to become again the world challenger number 1. Fourth period where Mohamed Ali definitely enters history 1974 Ali resumes his world champion title against George Foreman in Kinshasa in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of the Congo in a fight that will mark the history of world boxing. Fifth period 1978 Ali loses against Léon Spinks. He took his revenge against Spinks in 1979 by winning on points. 1979 Ali withdraws from boxing. 1980 1981 Ali will try to come back with 2 fights he will lose, he will definitively withdraw from boxing at 39.
