Artist featured in a collection
For this painting, I drew inspiration from a black-and-white photograph of an anonymous young woman, reportedly taken at Marcel Broodthaers' 'Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles,' situated at 30 rue de la Pépinière in Brussels during the period from 1968 to 1972. The image captures the moment when the young woman is fixing to the wall a typical sign used to announce the sale of an apartment, which reads "À VENDRE" (for sale). This image suggests to me a conceptual connection with "Musée à Vendre pour Cause de Faillite" (Museum for Sale Due to Bankruptcy) by Marcel Broodthaers, a work in which the artist reveals the tensions and contradictions of the art world, where works are subjected to the pressure of becoming mere commodities within the capitalist system. There are narratives within Art History that speak of artists who have created their own museums, such as Marcel Duchamp's "Boîte-en-valise," Robert Filliou's "Galerie Légitime," and Marcel Broodthaers' "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles." To continue this tradition, I founded the "Davis Museum," located in a ballot box and disseminated through social networks. This museum is simultaneously a "ready-made" sculpture, a collection of small-format contemporary art, an online digital archive, a nonprofit collective art project, and a cultural entity recognized by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
