ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I've always wanted to paint the skyline of Paris, the first time I looked at Paris from Eiffel tower. Millions of people profess to love Paris. For me, Paris is my first love, and is the true love of my life, unlike the other love that had come and gone. It is the eternally significant place that makes my heart hums in joy at the mere thought of it. It is the place I feel the most affinity toward from the day I set my foot on it as a dreamy collage kid, enthusiastically learning French language. Relationships have come and gone but my love for Paris remains the same for me thru the passing of time. I suspect it is so for millions of others out there. This is my first rendition of painting an arial view and my first ever attempt to dare to paint Paris. The style is done in the impressionism manner as this is the city that first let my eyes fall on the actual Impressionism masterpieces at the Louvre.

Gina Son is a Korean-American Cafe-Scene Painter based in Honolulu. A global nomad, she has lived, worked and experienced observing people and sampling the ambiance in cafes in Paris, Rome, London, Tokyo, Seoul and Santorini. Gina has always been artistically inclined since her childhood, winning awards in her early formative years (e.g. the National Artistic Gold Key award in high school). She has taken art throughout her education. Being romantic at heart, she is deeply influenced by the 19th C. Impressionism masters such as Renoir and Degas, Monet and their depictions of femeninity. As a perpetual dreamer, she endeavors to paint the beauty of human connections, shared affinity, positive and in hopeful messages of love and a life-well-lived in her paintings.
