Nearly Fantasy - Asian Elephant Print

This is part of my 'Nearly Fantasy' series, created to raise awareness of the 6th mass extinction event. All the paintings in this series depict endangered animals, and have a surreal edge, as if the animals have been painted from a dream or a memory. Here is the third in the series, an Asian elephant. Asian elephants are listed as endangered by the IUCN. Many factors have led to this, for example the ivory trade, habitat destruction and conflicts with local people. Elephants are used as working animals in Asia and are commonly exploited for human entertainment. I met the elephant this painting is based on while volunteering at the WFFT sanctuary in Thailand. She is at least happy now, in her retirement. 10% profit from the sale of the original and 10% profit from the sale of any prints will go to World Land Trust.
