ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“Memory and Distortion” and “Reality and Perception” Artworks based on the relationship between memory and reality, and how distorted memory creates a perception of the world. Memory creates the reality of the present and of the future. Memory is always distorted, so, each person lives in a different reality, a different world. How we perceive the world is affected by the memory (which is distorted by one’s perception of the world and forgetting). So, one’s reality is formed with altered memory and an altered view of the world. The physical world (or reality) every human lives in is one same world, but the psychological world (or reality) varies from one person to another person. Basically, all people live together, but also at the same time, each person is separated from each other. The “No. 4… Series” represents the vessel of memory and expression of the illusion of reality.

Han Na Hong (Aritst Name: H.RED) was born in 1990 in Bochum, Germany. When she was 07 years old, her family moved to South Korea and at the age of 13, her family moved to the United States. She spent her later youth years in Santa Clarita Valley, California. She stays and creates her works in Santa Clarita Valley. H.RED graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California with BFA. Currently, she is focusing on creating abstract paintings. As an abstract painter, she works with oil, acrylic, alcohol ink, and/or paper on canvas. By using visual contrasts in formal elements (color, shape, mark-making, and composition), she creates paintings that are tense with the push and pull of line and space. With all the elements in her paintings, she constructs a vibrant visual space for the viewers to experience. “Memory and Distortion” and “Reality and Perception” Artworks are based on the relationship between memory and reality, and how distorted memory creates a perception of the world.
