Olive oil had many uses, including cooking, lighting lamps, and as a cosmetic and medicinal oil. The word "oleum" is still used today in scientific and technical contexts, especially in chemistry and pharmacology, to refer to oils or oily substances. For example, "oleum ricini" is a technical term used for castor oil, while "oleum menthae" is used for peppermint oil. Additionally, the term "oleum essential" is used to describe essential oils, which are highly concentrated plant extracts used in aromatherapy and other holistic practices.
