About The Artwork

This canvas saw a fresh layer of paint being completely covered over in emulsion and expanding foam. Then the canvas was scratched against with a palette knife in an almost violent manner, to create a rough drawing of an eye exhurting a lot of energy and emotion onto the canvas. Opia is the discomfort of lookiing someone in the eyes, and the level of emotional response that can inflict on someone who may feel vulnerable or attacked. This piece looks at the idea of there being more than there is to be seen on the surface. The bubbling textures on the surface evoke a response from the viewer, sometimes uncomfortable or makes their skin crawl. All awhile looking towards an eye, a small opening to a bigger picture behind, Comes lacquered, sealed at the back and mirror plated.
