Orca - Cloudy Grey - 2 of 3 Canadians consider Orca to be synonymous with the west coast of Canada, although they are a global species. While I've never seen one up close, I adore these gigantic marine mammals. They have a complex social system comparable to elephants or higher primates, a long migratory journey, lifespans similar to our own, and extremely well developed communication. They are a vital part of global marine ecology. There is so much to admire about these beautiful and complex beings. The Haida people saw Orca as the rulers of the undersea world. Other indigenous cultures around the globe have given Orca high regard in their mythology, and I consider it a sad failing of the modern world that we fail to respect these creatures. The Orca is a pen and ink drawing, cut out and pasted onto an ocean painted in acrylic onto a wood panel.
