Christophe Carlier is best known for his vibrant, naturalistic, multi-colored paintings of Mexican flora, landscape and traditional culture. Originally from Belgium, Carlier developed a passion for Mexican traditions and folklore. In 2010 he decided to move to Mexico. In the rural surroundings of his new home, Carlier found a true artistic inspiration. Through deep observation, the artist is creating open compositions, with simple colored surfaces and rich, colorful object, that at times seem to take over the entire painting’s plane. Christophe Carlier’s work is actually a form of colorful meditation, a spiritual moment, when color is perceived with the soul and not with the eyes. “If you look closely at a cactus, it is not just green. Its shadows, its lights, its textures reflect a range of complex colors that come together in a mass perceived as green and my work as an artist is to teach the world that we do not necessarily see what we think we see.” Christophe Carlier has exhibited his works in group and solo exhibitions in Europe, South America and North America.
