This work is departure in technique. Using cold wax with oil for the first time. I made a drawing of the shapes and small sample of color notes. Now the fun starts...I used a squeegee, 3 different brayers, a plaster tape tool and palette knives to spread the paint. By increasing the cold wax to oil ratio, I was able to create "ghost effects" where and underneath color peak through. The underlayment is yellow ochre which provides a warm basis to apply a generally cooler palette. The painting is finished on the sides and signed on the reverse.

About Robert Carroll “My paintings reflect stylistic shifts as I explore different subjects in five (5) series- Abstracted Pop, Cars, The Island in 3 Movements, Explorations and Abstracts. The Island in 3 Movements series explores life on a barrier island using Impressionism, Cubism and Modern disciplines. The cubist style paintings utilize primarily raw sienna, white, black and grey palate in a re-imagining of some of my previous works that are shown adjacent to them in the Gallery. The paintings at the beach and on the water are Impressionistic in style. The Laying Pipe paintings represent an intention of creating “happy” paintings using a palette of pastels. The creative spark for the series is based on the seemingly non-stop activity of doing construction at the side of the road. They are always laying pipe, trimming trees, and re-paving bike trails on the island. Abstracts features oil and cold wax, mixed media and collage. Many of the artworks explore supply and demand in the face of the worldwide pandemic and the continuing economic problems. Other works are pure abstractions. Explorations is a chance to examine different ideas. Sometimes I see something or have an idea I want to explore in a painting. Generally, they will be one-offs. Abstracted Pop are paintings that have objective pop culture images while the rest of the painting is non-objective. Although there are many artists I admire, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, James Rosenquist and David Salle most directly influence my work.” ---Robert Carroll Rob Carroll studied art at the College of Coastal Georgia and has participated in numerous workshops.
