ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“This piece has a long history for me. It was the second artwork I started working on after completing “Who Am I”, but I got stuck with it. I loved the expression in the figure’s face, but the rest of the painting I didn’t like at all. I made several approaches to finish it, but only made it worse. I never touched the face though. After almost 2 years of looking at it (it’s been hanging in our living room all that time so I had to stare at it every day), and after my style had evolved, I gave it another go, and I think the result is pretty good. You can still see traces of what’s underneath. Adding very thin layers just gives it that additional depth. I think Patience is the perfect name for it. Some things take time, and they only evolve when the time is right.” – Sabrina Meissner

Sabrina Meissner grew up in North Africa and Southern Germany and is a Munich-based contemporary artist. In search of freedom, she travelled extensively and has lived and worked across Europe, Asia and Australia. In equal measure, she was looking for security and stability and chose a path that would provide both to a certain extent. In light of her own story, Sabrina has developed her own distinctive style which make her abstract portraits very recognizable and attractive for collectors. A strong use of contrasts and helmet-like hair in abstracted architectural and neo-surreal settings are the main distinctive features of Sabrina’s works. She invented her own way of painting faces which became one of the hallmarks of her style. Sabrina works with roller pens and acrylic on canvas, watercolour paper, cardboard or wood. In December 2019, one of her paintings was chosen and shown as part of a digital group exhibition at Art Basel Miami. Her works were also shown in group exhibitions in Germany and Italy, and in 2020 her submitted body of work was awarded the “Review Me” prize. Her works are hanging in private collections in Germany and the United States.
