About The Artwork

This painting was featured in the Summer of Southern Travel: Spotlight on the American South Collection on Saatchi Art's homepage (June 2018). This painting won the "Flash" Ludwick Memorial Award at the 2018 Associated Artists of Southport's Summer Regional Show (June-July). This painting was juried into Colors of Humanity's "Water" International Show (June 2018). ---- This painting was inspired by a recent trip to the Shallotte River Swamp, about an hour's drive from my home. We took a guided tour in a canoe through the black water swamp. The reflections were amazing. This is a one of a kind artwork. I always sign my work on the back and usually on the front as well. You will receive a certificate of authenticity with your piece of art. World Wide shipping takes around 10 days to arrive, depending on it's destination. All rights reserved – Joy Parks Coats Art – This is an original work of art created by the artist and may not be reproduced without written consent of the artist. I currently live on the coast of North Carolina. I have created art since I was a small child and won my first blue ribbon in the 4th grade for a county-wide art exhibit. I take a camera with me everywhere I go and like to paint from my own photographs. I have often stopped on the side of the road to photograph an unusual cloud formation or beautiful sunset. While some artists may view the world as ugly and horrible, I do not like to paint "ugly" art. I believe that art, like literature, should be a form of "escape" from an ugly world. I like to evoke a pleasant emotion through my art such as a feeling of calm or a happy memory.... I also like to travel-I am inspired by colorful Caribbean sunsets, palm trees blowing in the breeze, ocean tides, Tuscany hill towns .... I occasionally paint abstracts but mostly paint representational art using bold bright colors. My preferred medium is acrylic paint, but I sometimes branch out into watercolors or mixed media. My favorite artists: Michelangelo, Monet, Pollock....
