This piece was spontaneous and then turned into something very dramatic. As I finished it, I turned it around and realized there was a face present. My friend who is also a depth psychotherapist immediate said "Persephone" which have a few meanings ..Goddess of the Harvest and Bringer of Death. According to wikipedia, "The epithets of Persephone reveal her double function as chthonic (underworld) and vegetation goddess. The surnames given to her by the poets refer to her character as Queen of the lower world and the dead, or her symbolic meaning of the power that shoots forth and withdraws into the earth." I am humbled by the idea that she could have meant "death" as that feels very dark but perhaps I can reframe it to mean "rebirth though transition."

I have a profound respect for artistic transcendence through mythology. My art is representative of many different religious symbols, mostly gods and images considered to be sacred. Inspired by books, my personal life, spiritual symbols and their dimensionality, and histories, I paint the emotions they invoke in me. I am heavily influenced by philosophy, Architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright, sacred geometry, Egyptian history, Hinduism, and Buddhist images. My style is perfectly imperfect, wabi sabi. Perfection is a fleeting goal and for me and painting has been a journey into acceptance of myself imperfect, as is. As a lover of architecture, balance and polarity, sacred geometry speaks to my soul. History and world religions are interwoven themes throughout all of these pieces.
