ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work is made up of three canvases 2 meters high by one meter wide each. Image is formed from elements that are taken out of context. A scene is created with parts of photos manipulated in the painting, causing a more ambiguity in that the elements do not represent only themselves, but adopt a malleability to fit into a new world. Being subjected to the same space, they create a fictitious intention that forces to establish a confused narrative, animals, humans and banal images lend themselves to compose senseless, inconclusive fables, to grant a sordid character. Incoherent characters that are part of a scenario with a bizarre atmosphere. Whose interpretation is dependent on the relationships that are activated in the viewer, some type of connotation. Something that transforms an image whose origin was a function illustrative or demonstrative of a theme, to be part of something else. I started this work in 2011, but it was later postponed for years until this 2021 I continued it. Ships in a sturdy pvc tube.

Except for a couple of years when she lived in La Serena, Solís has lived her life in Maipú. She was always attracted by the realm of visual art––as a child she would draw cartoons that she saw on tv, children’s characters she would see on notebook covers, and create portraits of relatives. Even though she considered art a hobby in her childhood and during her teenage years, when the time came to choose her higher education, she was attracted more and more by this realm. Something that was only a hobby became something she could not live without. Although she had not yet finished high school, in 2004 she applied to the Universidad de Chile to begin the basic stages of a career in the visual arts. She was accepted and attended the last two years of school in parallel with these studies. She spent 6 long years at the university, and even though academically things were going well, she encountered some personal stumbles that hindered her from finishing her degree. However, during this time, she was selected to represent the Universidad de Chile in the Arte en Vivo contest at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in 2010. In a version of this contest in 2017, she was also a participant––this time at the Centro Cultural Palacio La Moneda. And in 2021 also in a Arte en Vivo contest she was awarded second place. She has participated in various exhibitions, among them the young artist contest ARTEFACTO, presented at Casa de Lo Matta in 2014 and 2017, and the Young Art contest at the University of Valparaíso in 2015 and 2017. She was part of a two-person exhibition titled Sujetos de Estudio at the Centro Cultural Chimkowe in 2015, and had solo exhibition, Pesebre, at the Viva Tobalaba Library in 2017. She was also invited, along with other artists, to create a live artwork during the celebration of the 80 years of Artel in 2018. An honorable mention is added to the mention obtained at the Arte en Vivo contest in 2010, by the Municipal Prize for Artes Visuales Talento Joven Santiago in the painting category in 2017. In addition, she won second place at the Viña del Mar International Watercolor Biennial and first place in the Primer premio artista, hosted by a circuit of galleries in Santiago, with the exhibition Reserva Federal at Madhaus art gallery. In 2023 she was awarded third place in the renowned Beca Arte CCU.
