ABOUT THE ARTWORK
While hiking in the Big Bog Recreation Area in Minnesota, I came across these pitcher plants emerging from the peat and sphagnum. They stood out as a testament to the unusual landscape that gave birth to them. Very few plants and animals can inhabit this particular marsh. All human attempts to drain and tame the land have failed. Yet the pitcher plants rise up out of the murky and hostile earth, monuments to the manifold ways nature shows us beauty even in unforgiving landscapes.
