About The Artwork

This is a painting I made in my studio in Somerville, MA, in 2015 while working on another series of paintings into which it didn't quite fit, so once it was dry I rolled up the canvas and put it into a collection of other rolled canvases. In late 2017 I rediscovered it and stretched it around a 36 x 68 in frame, yielding a fair amount of visible raw canvas around all sides, I enjoy the balance in this painting and the tension between the very active and busy sort of Jackson Pollock-y abstract expressionism in the middle and the calm, empty, raw canvas borders. I also enjoy the delicate pinks, blues, and yellows hiding in the background behind the very expressive and gestural streaks and swipes of darkest black and whitest white.
