Promised Land Print

(Heinemann, London: 1962, repr. 1970), vol. 1, p. 437 This is the Cornish landscape D H Lawrence wrote about in 1916 and I have attempted to capture something of its incredible light and atmosphere. It is an ancient feeling landscape, filled with the echos and ghosts of the countless lives lived in it. I work with permanent, archival acrylic ink and acrylic paint as well as pencil, charcoal, graphite. It is varnished to protect it and is framed in an white wood open box frame using only specialist acid free mounting materials to preserve the paper. The robust varnished surface, combined with a solid backing board, results in a piece of art tougher and easier to clean than works on canvas.
