ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This expressive and whimsicle painting on extra deep canvas is a vibrant mix of pencil and charcoal portraiture inspired by classic literature and art. This mix of charcoal and pencil drawing on gesso with a vibrant rendition of Dutch florals speaks to the transitions of our times and inclusion of everyone in a new role in society. This series entitled Pygmalion grew from the narrative of George Bernard Shaw's play which was written to support the suffragette movement in the early 20th-Century, and to subtly influence his audience to get with the times. The artist sees the woman as intelligent, beautiful and graceful yet always true to who she is.
