ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Raas Leela is a traditional art form of Manipur state nestled in the North East region of India. The term Raas Leela means Dance of Divine Love. It's an external expression of divine love which takes place in the heart of each and every individual, between the finite and the universal soul. Back in the time of traditional Raas Leela performances in Vrindavan garden, the songs were sung in Vraj language and its uniqueness can be seen in every aspect of the dance form, be it the costume or the moves. My painting depicts Lord Krishna dancing with Radha and Gopika in Vrindavan at the onset of spring. I loved painting their colorful costumes and the beautiful garden.
