About The Artwork

The work is inspired by autumn, in the rainy season, trying to capture the movement of the wind in the drops of water. I am interested in Nature and its manifestations and it never ceases to amaze me the wonder of each natural phenomenon. On the other hand, I think it is important to continually remember, now more than ever, that we need it and we are intimately related, despite the fact that we forget it with our contemporary hustle and bustle.

Cristina Barrera operates from her atelier in Guadalajara, Spain. It is here where she grew up and knew since she was a child that she wanted to dedicate herself to Art. He studied Fine Art at the Madrid University and at the Fine Art University of Castilla la Mancha where he graduated. He lived in Paris, Milan and Tokyo. Japanese culture marked him deeply. After graduating, he devoted himself fully to painting, making multiple solo and group exhibitions. When she discovered the encaustic (virgin wax with pigments and natural resin of Damar, worked in hot way), he fell in love with this technique and for 20 years he has been working with it, developing it and eventually creating his own technique with the mixture of this and other means like oil colours. "About painting, I always found it attractive the possibility of being able to make a space of your own full of energy by combining simple things likes a piece of fabric, pigments and glue. I work with virgin wax. It is an essential element of my work because of its transparency and warmness. I use the encaustic technique (a painting technique that uses warm wax and pigments), others with oil and other procedures." About the paintings: "Plaits" : Flowers and plaits are used as a symbol for the sentiment of intertwining within everything that exists. "Strings and spiders": necklaces and spider webs are painted so that when we look at their weave we can decrease our hurry and rest from our selves. "Volcanoes and flowers": gestation, change, latent possibilities.
