ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is a combination of multiple concepts in which childhood, camouflage and the hope of potential are combined. The snail is slowly stumbling into this scene and the sense that something is about to happen is apparent. The abstracted camouflage backdrop breaks the spacial barrier as it operates both behind and in front of our subject. The drips of paint pour both in front and behind, intertwined with the chalk text which reads 'rebuilding starts with a compromised block'. It is a poem quote from a series of paintings and poems.

Painter born in London, I have been living in Houston, TX since 2008. I am fascinated with exploring the potential of childhood. In my youth I always believed my future had endless possibilities and my work is about connecting with that moment. There is a positivity that lies in the approach of a child and an acceptance to the notion that anything could happen next. Recently I've been creating a series of portriats on post-it notes. I love the idea of using such a common material to create a celebration of someone which in my opinion is the purpose of a portrait.
