ABOUT THE ARTWORK

When I paint, the experience reminds me of how I feel when absorbed in listening to music. It is a deep level encounter, and at the best times I’m not conscious of much else. My attention is absorbed in shapes and colors, their patterns, movements, spatial tensions, relationships, their clashes and harmonies. In this world of abstraction, there is a story akin to a dance choreographed in the language of pure design. It is not unlike the human narrative of conflict and coordination, where personalities rise or diminish as they comingle and synchronize.

I graduated from Parsons School of Design where I majored in Graphic Design and Advertising. I worked in advertising, and as a graphic design art director. Later, I earned a degree from Jersey City State College in Art Education and became a public school teacher in New Jersey. Throughout my life I have practiced fine art painting, and have been showing in public venues. I have won two Fellowship Grants from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. I have had solo exhibits at the Jersey City Museum, and Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. Most recently I have exhibited at Jersey City Theater Center, Merseles Studios, Jersey City, NJ, Studio Montclair, Montclair, NJ, Kimmel Galleries, New York University After a long hiatus, I've revisited abstract painting, since March of last year. I rejoyce at having had this opportunity to create paintings with abstract shapes and colors. My creations have been a way to challenge my imagination and provide entertainment for the eye and mind. My hope is that my vision of this realm will convey to others a sense of play, intrigue, and excitement as it does for me.
