About The Artwork
Arc Gurren Lagann stands guard over a mountainous hinterland adjacent to a modern transport hub in this amended readymade canvas. An Airbus A380 can be seen taking off while a maglev train speeds past below. In this series of paintings, the found factory paintings I buy from house clearance sales and charity shops form the starting point in which the escapist bucolic scenes are invaded by subjects from other realities and imagined worlds. These pieces ship wired ready to hang. As they are readymade canvases of some age collectors should expect some cracking to original paint finishes and age related marks on frames. This is all part of their look.

My work includes drawing, painting, print, cyanotype, polaroid and digital photography, image manipulation using a variety of media such as oil, acrylic, pen and ink, pencil, pastel, marker, collage, crayon and found images, maps, charts, texts, books, stencils etc. Previous collections of works have explored themes such as advertising, infantile images and compositions inspired by illustrations in Ladybird books and their relationship to pop art. The enduring appeal of reflective surfaces and shiny objects in a world of mechanised production and the human mind’s tendency to attempt to find order in random or chaotic systems (pareidolia). In my latest series of works the composition of the slide puzzle or eight puzzle is used to obscure, reveal and reconfigure multiple layers of imagery.
