ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Head of Akhenaten The image evokes the perception of the objects altered by the contest in which they are placed. In this case, Akhenaten's head (around 1340BC), preserved in Berlin, is observed through the glass of the case in which it is locked and whose reflections inevitably become part of the image itself, materializing almost like an object and distributing themselves in the space of the composition

Bianca De Maio is an italian visual artist born in Naples. She is a self-taught artist and from a very young age she became interested in drawing and painting, while she attended high school to become a teacher, and studied pedagogy and philosophy, she continuously practiced drawing and oil painting. In 1995 she made her first solo show in the Viviani Park in Via Girolamo Santacroce in Naples. She began to sell paintings on commission and, after graduating, she began working in her first studio in Naples in 2014, mainly as a portraitist, alternating his artistic practice with teaching art history. For some years she has been devoting most of her time to artistic practice, and in 2018 she moved to London, where he currently works and lives. In her work she always tries to emphasise the qualities of the materials and their expressive potential and she usually starts to work by observing the natural world, with a realistic approach that also feeds on personal imagination, and her visual vocabulary inspired by the surrounding world.
