About The Artwork
This piece marks an unexpected leap into colour for me. The entire wood panel was coated in a thick layer of florescent yellow before I painted the portrait on it, which I then took sandpaper and a knife to; scraping and sanding away at the painting revealing the yellow underneath, as well as a wealth of texture. The are the florescent orange in the reflected light on the skin as well as in the highlights of the fabric is what made the painting to me, it compliments the hints of blue quite nicely. And the finishing touch? The sides of the paintings remain the bright florescent yellow, really giving it that extra pop and tying the whole piece together.
