About The Artwork

“Siesta”. Oil painting on canvas. (Born in January 2019) 40x40cm / 15,7x15x7” This painting belongs to my recent series "Strangers", where I create stories that answer the question of "what could have happened but never will" when passing by those strangers at the street. (But I'm sure there is a tad of truth to all of it). This is the peculiar story of this painting: “Feeling stuffed after her lunch, she went to sleep with her windows open. She always liked feeling the fresh breeze that entered her room, protected by the warmth of the direct sunlight. Little did she know that would be the last time the sun would touch her cheeks...⠀ ⠀ She woke up in a small, dark and humid room she didn’t recognize, where she spent the rest of her days, trapped.”

Andrea Castro is a visual artist from Spain with a thing for odd and unusual stories. She began taking art lessons when she was 14. Later she studied Fashion Design and discovered she would never befriend the sewing machine, so she ditched it and committed herself to full time painting in 2015. In her recent series of work, "Strangers", Andrea paints all the people we spot at the street but never pay closer attention to asking herself the most bizarre questions about those people. "How many times did I walk past a killer in my life?" Questions that lead to even more peculiar stories she makes up in her artwork. Her paintings are featured in several online and printed magazines and owned by collectors with great taste from all over the world.
