Sir Michael Francis Atiyah, born April 22, 1929 in London and died January 11, 2019, is an English mathematician of Lebanese origin, son of the writer Edward Atiyah. He has been a professor at Oxford University, Cambridge University and Princeton University. A member of the Royal Society since 1962, he was its president from 1990 to 1995. He won the 1966 Fields Medal and the 2004 Abel Prize. The painting is in the private collection of the Atiyah family
