ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Coronavirus has changed everything. The way we see the world. Our interactions with others. How we go about our daily lives. This past week, I felt compelled to create something that wasn't necessarily bleak because I do believe that on the horizon, good things are ahead of us again. I decided to return to my on-going homage to Magritte, using the man in the bowler hat as part of the visual. He would be on the far right of the painting, while on the far left, there is a woman, also with her back turned to us. Both are looking out across the sea at mountains and a bluish-purplish sky with the moon serving as a triangulation point between the two. It's an extremely simple painting. The distance between the two serves as a visual metaphor for Social Distancing. In ordinary times, I would like this painting. During these extraordinary times, I like it even more. With it's 36" x 48" size, it makes quite a statement when seen in real life vs. the phone, tablet or computer screen that you're probably viewing it now.

I am a modern day, self-taught surrealist. I paint ideas. My goal is to depict the impossible or at least, the highly improbable. When people view my paintings, it's readily apparent what is going on, just not always easily understandable as to why. My paintings will make you think and hopefully, bring a smile to your face.
