ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This work was inspired by an image that has haunted me since I was very young. It is an image of the soul. The shape is what has stayed in my mind for so many years: a rectangular-like shape with a sloping side. The color dark blue was also prominent in my memory. It is my hope that the viewer feels a softness and also an energy among the entities in this piece. I wanted to bring to life a vague image from memory in a way that satisfied me. While the work is abstract, one could identify a crescent-moon shape. This, along with the softly painted edges of the shapes, creates a lovely idea of the pulling energy of the moon.

I am an artist steeped in the portrait. Vacillating between the study of music and art, I pursued music only to put off my study of art. I applied and was accepted to art school in Massachusetts, the first time with a scholarship, twice. I am interested in the face in a variety of media and when I haven't time, exercises in collage, which keep me sane and in the game. I am a university professor in music, but for twenty years was a high school teacher in NYC in music and visual art. A new preoccupation is my interest in spaces that have been inhabited. I like to add my own imaginative touches to such spaces to lull the impact of loss.
