Jackie Tice was born in California, raised in the Midwest, and has traveled the United States extensively. She has practiced her art from the East Coast to the West Coast as well as residence study in Scotland. A graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a B.F.A. in painting, and a MFA Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. Besides her studies Jackie is heavily invested in the local arts through her work at Arts Illiana, Energize Downtown, The Business Development Center, and Americorps. Jackie's work has been included in many juried shows including 4 years at the Wabash Valley regional Exhibition at the Swope Art Museum. Her paintings are in many private as well as public collections. Three of her paintings are in Indiana State University' permanent collection. Jackie has worked for a number of years developing her own personal painting technique. Through her study of Flemish and Renaissance painting she has adapted the fundamentals for use with modern medium and scale. The result has been a figurative and painterly image that is perfectly suited for her choice of subject. Jackie's paintings of the female persona are neither strictly portrait nor figure, but somehow bridge the two disciplines to reveal more than either could alone. Low key light and enigmatic expressions combine to reveal intangible character and evoke an introspective mood. Her work is meditative and melancholy in equal parts.
