This painting is named after the song I was listening to whilst making it. Like many of my pieces, it has intuitive beginnings with the aim towards lampooning realism and notions like shading, perspective or colour contrast. It is unclear if there is a background or a foreground in the usual sense, whether we are looking at an object in space or a more fluid phenomena briefly captured before it is reabsorbed. The lithe spiral can be equally interpreted as tunnelling downwards into some dark pit, and/or some rapidly advancing eyeball or marble hurtling towards us. Its 'tail' end is reminiscent of a Klein bottle and that notion of being unable to discern the difference between being on the inside or outside of something. Being trapped in a negative cycle and the struggle to convert your circumstances into something more fruitful is not just an alchemical act often associated with the spiral (see Louise Bourgeois who highlights its dualistic nature) but is also a reoccurring theme of the 1998 Outkast masterpiece that is 'SpottieOttieDopaliscious'.
