Stay in the Light Forever Print

This watercolor painting is from a series titled "In the Light Forever" using film negatives as reference. These are available separately or as a series of four; click on the rest of the paintings in the series to see more. I’m interested in the way the light and dark areas exchange positions in the negative and create a visual poem, placing light where it is usually dark and vice versa. The images also represent a conversation with the human figure as well as with the paint itself. What interests me is the way the liquid paint changes the forms of the figure as it flows, creating areas of abstraction that feel emotional. I paint the figure because I love the body and all it contains, its memory, form, desire and imagination. What I want to do most of all with my paintings is to create visual poetry; to bring the invisible into the light.
