Inspired by the current research findings in astronomy, especially the field's efforts to understand the force that drives the accelerating expansion of the universe, the invisible matter that holds galaxies together. The artwork is part of my current series that explores texture and color: not quite a sculpture yet not strictly a painting, it shows a variety of organic thickly applied oil paint. The glazes have been applied in translucent layers that allow for the colors below to show through. Even though dark blue is the main color, at a closer look the painting seems to shimmer with the variety of colorful glazes: pinks and yellows, aqua and greens. Richly textured paint application, multiple vibrantly colored glazes, can be shown vertically or horizontally. See detail images for close ups of the texture and color variation.

"I am currently working on a series of highly textured mixed media works. Not quite sculptures yet not strictly paintings either, my work is after the truth within and just beyond the visible, reaching for the infinite yet expressing it in the finite ways." Currently, Prokopenko’s work can be seen at St Paul the Apostle, 59th St and Columbus Ave, New York, and the Sheen Center, 18 Bleecker St, New York, NY. Prokopenko's public art murals have been featured in Cosmopolitan, Elle, Gothamist and can be seen on Lower East Side (part of 100 Gates Project) and Barcelona, Spain.
