I understand myself mainly as painter of symbolic still lifes, whose technique is elaborated perfectly, with well-balanced composition of colors, light and space. They allow the viewer to reflect on his own person, our society and our existence – in a manner not loud, screaming, multicolored and spectacular, but gentle, aesthetic, simple and unobtrusive. In my opinion, Art composes of several attributes -not only one- and so for me it is absolutely necessary that my works bear my characteristic signature (in figurative sense). In recent years I characterize my works as “Slow Painting”, a term created in the style of some Italian cooks who invented the term “Slow Food”. Creating my paintings is a meditative process evolving over a longer period – starting with mixing the colors using raw materials like pigments, then applying different translucent color coats up to and including the finishing coat. It is essential for me -as well as for the viewer- to look closely to things and their message, and this process brings along a new and unique world-view of mine. Paintings are means of expression for me to take a stand in today’s life (or my own life). They also aim to attract the viewer with their superficial beauty, to enter into dialogue with him and give him food for thought. Irrespective of the preceding, I never lost my affinity for outdoor painting within the past thirty years, which still constitutes the close relation to nature in my life and my calming influence – painting as meditation…
