ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is a bold and colourful still life rendered in brightly coloured acrylic and charcoal in a naive and simplified style. The image shows a living room corner, with a flower vase on a coffee table and includes a window in the background that adds a graphic aspect to the composition. This work is from a loose series of quick paint sketches depicting flowers in a childish and light hearted way. All the works are painted in Acrylic Paint and Charcoal: this in particular is on recycled paper; for this reason this one only has a rather irregular shape, as shown in picture, and is approximately 46 cm wide and 70 cm high. Although coats of fixative have been applied to the artwork, charcoal lines may continue to smudge slightly. This is normal, though it is recommended not to touch the surface of the artwork and to remind who will frame the work to do the same.

I am a visual artist and an architect based in Rome. My paintings are either entirely abstract or loosely figurative. I attempt through the use of color, of texture and layering, collage and, most importantly, line, to capture the naiveté I see in my daily life. There's nothing quite as beautiful as the unintentional. Bright colors and dark, brisk lines reflecting the moods of children - tucked into my still lifes are images associated with childhood; Either way, a concealed compulsion for balance (of weights/ shapes) delineates my paintings from those of a child. Both the innocent associations of youth and the equilibrium of maturation are bluntly juxtaposed, and seek to find unity inside my works.
