Still Life with Lighted Candle Print

This still life was inspired by earlier quasi-still life paintings that had a human hand reaching in from outside the frame, as though the hand would snatch away a piece of fruit. I decided to dispense with the comedy of this situation and do an old fashioned still life dependent on the objects alone. The candle idea came from my interest in the candlelight painters of the past, like Georges Latour and his fellow followers of tenebrism, an art that submerges its subjects in darkness. I elevated the light in order to give the painting a contemporary feel. .
