ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The individual pictures show Germans, French, Spaniards, Italians etc., the core of the EU at a picnic. It is intended as a snapshot of the current situation in Europe (EU), with its divided nations and the fear of losing the humanistic values and our free democratic values on which the European idea of the EU is based. My characters seem to be somnambulant means to oversleep the seriousness of the situation over a peaceful picnic. I imagine that the images could be presented as part of an installation where the ground in front of the works could be illuminated with blue light (UN color, symbol of humanistic values). The works are politically charged and I believe that the current situation also demands a statement from artists. Symbols appear, such as the sign for freedom of the press at the top right of the work Germany or the symbol in the middle of the work: House of Parliament, Great Britain or the finger shown for the enlightenment, work France…
