ABOUT THE ARTWORK

What inspired this work was my weekly water aerobic lessons. The inspiration came from a mixture of how light I felt in the water, along-with the vibrancy of colours I found in peoples different coloured costumes and complexions. Living in Brent, a particularly multi cultural area of London, in which 146 different languages are spoken, is something I have always been hugely proud of and this acceptance of our differences I wanted to translate in these paintings. 'Swimmers' collection is all about making people feel validated no matter their style, size or race and from my experience, the lightness of water helps especially replicate that feeling of acceptance and self-worth because I feel water has the power to roll off of the body just as easily as your worries can too.
