ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The red color shows a part of flag that glows at the center of this pattern. when we look at this design, it looks like an outline of the earth and a few special symbols indicate a certain region on the earth known as ‘Switzerland’. on the top circle shape, we have “cheese” and in the lower part we can see “Leontopodium Alpinum” which is the national flower of Switzerland. in the center, there is a “Watch” while on the gnomons there are Swiss Alps & pine tree. Also, I put the number 1291 on the watch which refers to the year that a historic alliance concluded by cantons of Uri, Schwyz & Uterwalden. they united to defend the peace upon the death of Emperor Rudolf I of Habsburg, forming the nucleus of the old Swiss confederacy. I found that this is an important date because this alliance was to become the focal point around which the Switzerland of today was built.
