ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Growing up in Hawaii, there was an old black and while photo of my mother in her late teens in our family album. This was one of the few close up pictures of my mother in her youth I never saw in real life. Harsh immigrant life has changed her so much I cannot reconcile the innocent and pure smile with hope in this young girl's visage with the face she has for the most part of my growing up. I am a dreamer and dreams can easily fracture. I wanted to remember my mother in the way she was though I did not know her then (as I was not even born). We all have biological mothers. Or else, we could not exist. Life happens to people and some really carry their lives with grace, shining the blessing aura that God has been good to them. More souls are being broken and pickled in an abyss of despair after living in negativities and pessimism. If you happen to have angst and issues with your mother, you are not alone. This is the message of shared sorrow, compassion and then finally the message of hope and beauty in life despite things that pain us.
