ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Pink Tree in Kensington Garden is part of the London series. Last summer after teaching art on a cruise ship, I ended in London and stayed at a B&B right across from Queen Victoria's lovely garden. I visited everyday and sketched peeking through the bushes. This painting is one of my exaggerated interpretations of the beauty, colorfulness, and serenity I found there. My work is highly stylized, colorful, enlivening, upbeat, and optimistic! The sides are painted, so no frame is needed. I hope my work brings joy, color, and happiness to all who view it.

Blessed by a love of life, an optimistic outlook, a very high energy level, a passion for painting, and a drive to put and keep my creative life in the forefront--I believe all this has gone into my forty plus year career as an artist. Since early childhood, I have had a love for strong color and design, regardless of whatever medium I used, be it drawing, collage, mixed-media, oils, acrylics, oilsticks, or encaustics. Regardless of medium, my work is image-based and revolves around the house (both interiors and exteriors) and landscapes as subjects. These subjects are the armature on which I can apply my subjective response to place and time, engaging emotions, fantasy, and fiction. I love to capture my real environments or those of friends and places I've been to, through my screen of selective seeing, playful detail, heightened color, intricate design and pattern, and bits of fantasy. For me, art really is about enhancing and interpreting reality to create a more optimistic and joyous world.
