ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I dream about the sea very frequently. I see it from a window or from a distance, I never manage to get into it, but I gaze at it in wonder. They say dreaming about the sea is a symbol of repressed emotions. I make a big show of emotions, but I imagine that the true and deep ones are contained within me. I carry a lot of sadness, and sometimes I feel a lot of anger too. Through my work, sometimes I see it coming out and I don't know from where. It's like a kind of disgusting mush that you hated as a child, a hot gooey mess that they served to fill you up, and the cure was worse than the disease. Adults are sometimes capable of doing terrible things to children. This particular painting speaks of one of those liberating dreams. I tried to explain it just with colors that better express emotions, and then the phrases that explain the dream appeared. I didn't want to depict it, so everyone imagines the dream in their own way and it becomes somewhat their own. For me, the word is essential and, depending on how it's used, it seems less determinative than the image; the word suggests more of your own thoughts, and you can imagine everything in your own way. I really like giving the viewer color and words and letting them construct their own painting. In a way, it's a method of creating the perfect painting for each person who sees it. I remember the yellow rocks, the sea shattering like a mirror against them, distorting the bottom and the rocks themselves, sometimes glass, sometimes mirror, and sometimes magnifying glass. The stunning turquoise color. A new house my parents had by the sea, which they never really had, with a long corridor that led to an exit to the sea, it couldn't be more beautiful. A mattress in a courtyard with views and many flowering plants. Prisoners are content to see the sunrise or a piece of sky from their barred window. Those of us who feel repressed find solace in dreams. Prisons. Aesthetics will save us from everything.
