ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Technical info: Oil painting on italian canvas. Shipped rolled. The canvas has enough margins (avout 2.7 in. on each side) so it can be stretched on a wooden frame. About the work: The way people think and feel affects their face muscles and eventually engraved on their appearance. It is in the non-personal situations, where it is impossible to develop a real connection, that I try to capture the inner essence of the people I draw. Each figure changes the dynamic of the space, emotionally charging the work.

Dania Latar was born in 1980 in Israel. She lives and works in Tel Aviv. Dania is a figurative-expressive painter, and works with oil, charcoal and pastels. Her subjects include portraits, life drawings as well as large scale narrative paintings. Artist statement People contain in their faces their time, period and culture. The way people think and feel affects their face muscles and eventually engraved on their appearance. This is why I find figurative painting the most interesting. My main media are oil, charcoal and pastels, on surfaces that include mostly paper and canvas but also resins and occasionally ice. Part of my work is life drawing from quick poses; other portraits come from my inner world – more or less famous characters that hold significance for me; and there are also tributes to creations in other fields that inspire me. My painting is always an attempt to capture a moment, whether I paint from life, photo or memory. Time never stops and people change so there is urgency. Painting is like a quest to catch life so it will not “get away”.
