About The Artwork

I've always been fascinated by the jellyfish. The colors, the transparencies and their movements through the water. In French they are called "méduses" which also speaks to the Goddess Medusa which was another series I created years ago. Like Medusa, the jellyfish can be beautiful but deadly, yet there are some fresh water jellyfish that are not poisonous that I will swim among someday for further inspiration. This painting is done on a 1 1/2 inch deep canvas. The edges have been black. The painting is done in Ferrario and Holbein Professional Quality oil paints. I've collaged Burlap and used other textures to create this painting. Varnish has been applied to protect the surface of the paint. The painting is signed on the front. I provide a certificate of authenticity.

Stewart Fletcher’s paintings, drawings and works on paper have been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions over the past forty years. His paintings, drawings and works on paper are part of several private international collections in over 20 countries and in 36 American States. Known for his fascination with the human body, Fletcher explores various concepts beyond the representational image. The great equalizer he believes is when one's clothing is removed. All identifiers and societal statuses disappear and the real person appears. Fletcher does not believe that his work is erotic, however some people do because of their social, religious and regional upbringing. He often uses humour and satire to convey his views on the world around him..
