About The Artwork
This work is about pop culture, the icons of popular culture including signage, marquis of movie theaters, and the weathering that happens. It shows how people use things, how things fall into disrepair, and yet there is a quiet beauty in the patina, textures and colors of things left behind. I particularly was interested in the bokeh patterns of highlights on the surfaces of the lights further in the distance. This is an ant's eye view of the signage outside of a movie theater in Ypsilanti, MI which is the home of my alma mater, Eastern Michigan University. I felt that doing this in watercolor with bold colors and patterns it would stand out.
