"Timberline #1" is an encaustic wax painting on a cradled birch panel. It is framed in a white, wooden floating frame. Encaustic wax is an ancient and archival medium. It is one of the first painting mediums, dating back over two thousand years. The medium is made from beeswax and resin, which is mixed with pigments, painted in layers, and fused with heat. It is a beautiful and willfull paint that is hard to work, but very much worth all the labor in the end. I strive to use the natural beauty of the wax and oils to represent nature as closely as I can. Some of my wax paintings are very abstract, others (like this one) are more impressionistic. And sometimes, I have a very good day, and somehow capture realism in wax! This painting is one of just a couple left in a tree/nature series I did back in 2016. The other is "Oxidation". They look nice together. My paintings all come ready to hang, with hanging wire on back of the cradle, not the frame. That way, if you like, the floating frame can be removed, repainted, and/or replaced. I prefer to ship my wax work in floating frames, to give it that little extra bit of protection for the edges. The edges are interesting and can be seen in the floating frames. I suggest these frames to protect against accidental drops and the like... although the art does look nice with no frame as well. The painting comes with a care sheet, a short history of encaustic wax, an artist bio, hanging hardware, and a polishing cloth.
